About Us
The Witsford Ranch was founded in 2012 by a born-rancher named Robert Witsford. Robert had grown up in a large family residing out west in the beautiful plains of Texas. Robert had a strong connection with horses since he was a boy, and was an avid horseman by the time he was fifteen. Robert married his high school sweetheart, Ana. They had decided to pack up and move east to a horse ranch in northern Ohio. The two of them wanted to start a new life, and a family. Together they had two children, Nicholas and Amber. Shortly after giving birth to her daughter, Robert's wife had been diagnosed with cancer. Most of the horses had to be sold in order to pay for medical bills, and the family nearly had to sell the ranch. After a costly and long battle, Ana passed away in her sleep.
In February of 2012, Robert had decided to give his rebuilt ranch a name, and expand into a business. Thus, the Witsford Ranch was born. He began hiring staff and stable hands, and began purchasing, selling, and breeding horses outside of the small town. It didn't take long for the Witsford Ranch to become a familiar name throughout the community. Robert took great pride in his horses, and worked hard to produce and sell high quality American Quarter and American Paint Horses. His daughter took in his footsteps, and had the same love and compassion that he had. Robert personally trained and broke each of his horses, and the horses had much respect for him. While mounting an unbroken young stallion, he was bucked off and accidentally landed on his head. Robert passed away the next morning in the hospital, leaving his ranch and fortune to his daughter, Amber, who was only twenty-one-years old.
Amber has successfully carried on her father's hopes and dreams, and strives to produce outstanding horses like he had. She also has a strong love and takes great pride in her horses, as well as forming a personal relationship with each of her horses.
In late July, 2014, Witsford Ranch decided that the ranch would begin the breeding, selling, and competing of Crabbet Arabians. We will be showing and breeding our Crabbets to promote western-bred Arabians. All of our Arabians will compete in western disciplines. Witsford will now be purchasing, breeding, and competing with Crabbet Arabians, alongside the AQHs and APHs.
